I humbly offer my personal perspective.
This story shows many examples of the metaphysical principle that states information or guidance from the invisible and it’s realm can move into the physical world through different channels or forms.
For example, Bruce’s encounter with the “stranger” in the captain’s cabin—who was actually still on the stranded ship—illustrates how information or an image can emerge from an invisible source, appearing to Bruce as a vision. This unseen figure left a concrete message on the slate, “Sail Northwest,” providing guidance that ultimately led to the stranded ship’s rescue. The message itself came through a mysterious supernatural invisible channel, appearing without any physical action from the actual writer, yet it manifested in a form (writing on a slate) that made it visible and actionable in the physical world.
The Dream as a Channel for Invisible Information
The stranded man’s dream of Bruce’s ship approaching to save them served as a bridge from the invisible (his vision or belief in the coming rescue) to the visible (the physical arrival of the rescue ship). This phenomenon gets orchestrated so that human beings may turn toward knowing God and Buddha, leading them to cultivate The Way and correct themselves.
