Zacatlán is a municipality located in the State of Puebla, Mexico. It is recognized with the name of Zacatlán de las Manzanas(Zacatlán of the Apples), for being one of the main apple producing centers.

In the early 1940’s and still celebrated today, the deep-rooted tradition of hosting the Apple Fair was born in Zacatlán. The Apple Fair is hosted every year on 15th of August to give thanks to the Virgin of Assumption. The apple is blessed in the town’s church. This tradition originated, from the yearning of travelers that compared products from different locations. The people believed the fair would intensify their sale. A special factor to this fair is the tradition of choosing the Apple Queen. Many beautiful young ladies from the village will join hoping to be the one with the most charm, grace, and beauty to be pronounce The Apple Queen.

The following story is about Queen Cielo. This is a widely known story told by the folks of Zacatlán.
This takes place after Queen Cielo was announced Apple Queen. Accompanied by her princesses during the night, they made their way to view the waterfall. A paradisiacal place, with the torrent of the water falling, producing clouds with small drops of water which, at a certain time of day, forms an extraordinary rainbow.
The Queen and the princesses all bathed in that crystalline current, played and ran on the stones. Unexpectedly, Cielo slipped and fell. The fall was mortal. People soon found out the tragic news, due to the lack of sunlight the body went undiscovered. Time after, a villager found the body floating in a continuous cycle of being submerged above and below the surface of water at the end of the forceful water falling.
The following years after this incident numerous people who passed or lived in Zacatlán would see Queen Cielo’s appearance.
The most startle experience was when a passenger crossing Zacatlan saw a beautiful young female on the bus. He described her to have a gorgeous necklace on and an elegant dress. He sat next to her and presented himself. He had an instant connection with her personality. Before they parted ways he asked with respect if she would allow them to meet again. The girl accepted his request and gave him the address to her house. Later, the man went to the address seeking her beauty again. An older lady opened the door. The man asked for the beautiful young girl. In response, the older lady with sadness and anger on her face thought the man was trying to play a joke on her. The man became puzzled. The older lady explained to him that it was impossible for him to have seen her daughter Cielo because she has been dead for five years now. The man swore that he was telling the truth that Cielo herself gave him the address to the house. To prove his credibility he gave a description of Ceilo. The mother astonishingly, went for a picture of Cileo who happen to be wearing the same exact outfit with the same necklace. Due to many confrontations with the soul of Queen Ceilo, the people of Zacatlan dedicated a mass (liturgy) to her. Everyone got together and prayed for her soul to be allowed to finally rest. After that mass her soul’s appearance was never seen.

I respectfully bow down to The Grand Master,
I respectfully bow down to The Master,

The following story are events that occurred to my grandmother’s uncle in the 1960’s in Michoacan, Mexico. My grandmother’s uncle made a living selling bread to the town. Everyday he would make his way with his little cart of bread to the city and come back home when the sun had set down. One hard day after work he felt unusually tired and since it was late he decided to lay under a tree and take a nap. While resting, someone's spirit whispered to him. My grandmother's uncle, spooked by the spirit, attempted to get up but was unable to. The spirit was laying on top of him so he couldn't go anywhere. The spirit told him about the treasure that he had buried right under him. The spirit said that there was one box of money right under him. And the other three boxes are buried in a straight line to the North about 10 meters from each other. My grandmother’s uncle told the spirit that he would keep three of the boxes of money, and use one box to pay the church for a mass, so the spirit can finally rest in peace. He then felt the dead weight come off of his body and proceeded to get up. On his way back home he became very ill with an uncontrollable fever. With the little strength he had and the desire to find that money, he made it home to tell his mother (my great grandmother) about the money. Moments later the sickness killed him. His mother did not dare to go find the money, thinking that it was what had killed her son.

I respectfully bow down to The GrandMaster,
I respectfully bow down to The Master.

My grandfather.

My grandfather died on December 11, 1992 due to cancer at the age of 40, leaving his wife (my grandmother) and two children (my mother and uncle) in heavy sorrows and in a foreign country. His death happened only a couple of years after he had successfully fled our home country, Nicaragua and settled in the United States where he had hoped to have a better future. So without him, my family was left to encounter many hurdles both economically and spiritually.

Christmas and New Year days weren’t joyful anymore. My grandmother was trying to learn the English language to find a job so she could put food on the table and pay the house mortgage (the one I currently live in) my grandfather left us. My family never talks about him, as I was born after he had passed away I only knew about him from some pictures on the wall next to the restroom.

Recently, he has been in my thoughts and out of curiosity, I asked my grandmother to tell me about him. She told me about his environment and the kind of family he had. He was the youngest of two other siblings. All he ever wanted during his childhood was to be able to go to school like his other two siblings. But his parents prohibited him from going to school, he was only allowed to work by selling products to provide for his family. My grandfather learned to hate his place in life at an early age, which led him to mischievous actions, and his parents would brutally beat him as punishment for whatever they thought to be his wrongdoings. He was nearly killed by his own mother after coming home empty-handed because he had gambled away all his days earning. He learned to accept his life but would rather be dead. Many times he tried to end his life by drowning, hanging, or igniting fireworks inside his pants but failed in of his attempts. Someone always came up or something happened at the right time to prevent him from taking his own life. Later in life, he met my grandmother and they started a family, something for him to live for.
My grandfather had given my mother a chance to give me a better environment than where he had come from, allowing me to come across the wisdom that Grandmaster and Master are providing.
I am very grateful for Grandmaster and Master for saving my soul and my life.
